Water for Elephants

My friend and I went to see "Water for Elephants" the other night.

Oh my gosh you guys!  This movie gave me heart palpitations, I swear.  I'm not going to say much about the story at all, because I don't want to give one ounce of it away for anyone who hasn't seen it yet, or read the book.  I will talk about the fashion and Reese Witherspoon though, because I don't think she's ever looked more beautiful than she does in this movie.

The whole thing is set in the 1930's in a circus.  Could there be a more picturesque setting?  I love 30's glamour, and mixing it in with the gaudiness of the circus makes for amazing visuals.

Check out these incredible sketches alongside the real wardrobe, I found them on Instyle.com .

One of my favourite looks (as you already know for the Tourist wardrobe review) is any evening gown cut on the bias, like this one:

Reese really knows how to pull off that inverted V halter neckline.  Oooh la la, take a gander at this lovely one in red red red:

And, of course, every lady has to have a dress that looks just as good leaving a room as it did walking in.

I loved every outfit she wore, even the housecoats!  The casual looks were just as beautiful as the evening wear.
And my #1 favourite look:

You can't really tell, but she's wearing Jodhpurs!  Makes me want to run out and get a pair.  And look at all of the lovely bangles on her wrist.

If you go to this movie be prepared for a bit of an emotional roller coaster (and quite a bit of violence), but also be prepared for incredible visuals, wardrobe, hair, sets, and lighting.

All in all it was a good night out and I'm inspired to make something with a 30's vibe to it somehow.  If I had someplace to wear an evening gown you know I'd be on that instantly, but maybe something a bit more low key will be in order.  We'll see what I can come up with!

The Tourist

I took this past weekend off from blogging.  That meant no making a tutorial, no posting, no linky parties, and hardest of all...no visiting.  I needed a couple of days to refresh and I think it worked!  While sitting at my sewing machine I had a bit of an epiphany.

I only started blogging 8 months ago, but during that time I've crafted something every single week, sometimes more than one thing.  Funny thing is though, as much as I love crafting, it's not my passion.  What I really get a kick out of is sewing and everything related to it.  That means fashion, trends, colour, fabric, etc.  Somehow I got away from that.

So, starting today I'm going to reconnect with my sewing machine and begin to write more often about sewing projects, patterns, tools, inspiration, whatever.  I'll still craft, but you can expect to hopefully see a bit more variety in what I show you.

So, to kick it all off I wanted to share some images that got me off the couch and behind my sewing machine.

I have to admit that I'm a sucker for Angelina Jolie movies.  I can't help it.  I like her style, her beauty, and even her acting.

This weekend I watched The Tourist .  I don't think it did outstanding in terms of reviews but no one can deny that the wardrobe, make-up, and scenery weren't to die for.

Watching Jolie strut around in perfectly fitted dresses, gowns, and wraps, inspired me to complete a project or two of my own (one of which I'll show you on Wednesday).

This is probably the prettiest dress she wears:

I love that splash of coral that just streams behind her as she saunters down the streets.

And any excuse to show a beautiful bias cut evening gown is good enough for me...even if it is in white.

So classic!

I think I need to rethink my black suit..

I'm not sure what I like best about this look, the gown, the make-up, the hair, the diamond choker????  Who knows, but if I ever fell into a life that let me wear something like that I sure wouldn't mind~

I know what you're thinking, this isn't 70's inspired.  You can't wear this to the disco or the music festival in the park!  Why on earth would Tamara like this?  Let's just say I'm a woman of many moods.

What do you think?  Do you have different styles for different parts of your life?  Have you seen the movie?  Did you like it?  or did you just like looking at it?  There actually aren't all that many wardrobe changes in this movie, but I think every one of them has huge impact.

Leave a comment and share your thoughts~
