Etched Jar Candles

Last week I showed you how Martha Stewart Crafts is helping me get ready for Christmas with my Surprise Candy Dish.  There were so many other fun products in the box though that I had to keep crafting...and that means that you get a bonus tutorial this week!

Here's what you need to make your own Etched Jar Candles:

-Jar Candles (You can make your own but I have loads of these large candles from Michaels so I grabbed a couple from my stash)
-Martha Stewart Glass Etching kit
-Martha Stewart Adhesive stencils
-embellishements and ribbon
-not shown: scissors and pop dots or other adhesive

Steps:
1) Remove the label from your candle.  I was surprised at how easily this one came off.

2) Place your adhesive stencils onto your glass jar.  I love that these are reusable and can be adjusted in case you want to move things around.

3) Using the brush in the Etching kit, just glob on the etching cream nice and thick.  Make sure to cover all the areas that you want to show up as etched.

4) Let the etching cream sit for about 15 minutes or so and then just run it under a tap and wipe it all off.  At first you'll think nothing happened, but remove your stencil and voila!

I like how detailed the stencils are~

5) This is a very subtle effect on these candles so I added some ribbon and little poinsettia embellishments.

I even grabbed a couple of mini candles and did them too!

These would make nice hostess gifts or little game prizes.  They look like you spent ages making them but really they take less than 30 minutes from start to finish.

Surprise Candy Dish

As you know, I am well into holiday crafting...and now Martha Stewart Crafts is helping me!

Just look at all of the goodies I got in the mail!

To be honest, I didn't know where to start.  Should I decoupage?  Try some glass etching?  Break out the pretty paints???  And then I was inspired by some exotic looking dishes one day and thought "Hey! I could make that!"  So, I did.

Here's what you need to make your own pretty candy dish for the holidays.

Materials:
-cut glass bowl from the thrift store.  (Get one with lots of cuts but isn't super detailed.)
-glass paint in contrasting colours.  (I used Martha Stewart Fine Glitter Paint)
-paint brushes

Steps:
1) Clean and dry your glass bowl then just use your paint to fill in all of those cuts in the glass.  There are two things I love about these Martha Stewart paints...1) the fine tip and 2) the locking cap....brilliant!

2) Leave your paint to dry overnight.  Once you're sure everything is dry go overtop of EVERYTHING with a contrasting colour.  Do as many coats as you need to get a fairly opaque coverage.

Once all of your coats are dry you're done!  That's it!  So easy peasy.  What I love is that from the side it just looks like a normal little bowl.  But a peek inside reveals a whole other story...a SURPRISE!

This paint is dishwasher safe!

I made some teeny tiny little boxes and gift tags!

What's so special about these teeny tiny boxes????

I followed the design lines and pricked teeny tiny holes into the paper.

Then filled them with lovely potpurri and put them in my drawers

 to make all of my clothes smell pretty!

And this is just a cute little tag. 

 My Silhouette loves this paper so much that I just had to cut something out~

Butterfly Cards

Here we go, another butterfly themed craft.  Sorry, but I cut out so many extra butterflies for my new Butterfly Art Canvas project that I have to come up with new ideas to use up them all up!

What better way than a couple of pretty cards~

I came across this idea over on Simon Says Stamp which I found through Tip Junkie (love that site!).

Mine is a little different in that I didn't use all different kinds of embellishments, although I love that idea.  It's much more simple, but it used up 6 butterflies!

It went out to a lovely lady Ive met through blogging who was going through something very sad recently.  Isn't it funny how blogging can create wonderful friendships with people you've never even met!

I made a similar one for my niece who graduated from Pre-School the other day.

On this one I used my Martha Stewart Glue Pen and Martha Stewart Glitter to add something a little extra.  And while I'm on a Martha Stewart kick I might as well tell you that, other than the butterflies, the papers I used were from the brand new Martha Stewart Stitched Designer Paper Pad.  (Stay tuned because I just might have something a little extra to share with you soon about this great new line!)

The badge is up on some 3D Dots so that she could take it off and wear it.

I never used to like cards.  I mean, I didn't like giving them, making them, or even recieving them.  What are you supposed to do with them afterwards?  But, I'm really getting into it now and appreciate the thought behind giving a card.  See? Never too late to teach an old crafty new tricks~
