At first glance I know what you're thinking...big deal, another tube dress. Right? But this is no ordinary tube dress.
I wanted something blousey and not so form fitting. So, this is actually two separate pieces that will take you from day, to evening, to work, and back to day again!
I love the top on it's own with pants!
And the skirt can easily be worn to work with a slightly more conservative top.
But if you need something to wear to your next patio party, pair it with a contrasting top!
This would be an excellent addition to your vacation wardrobe too!
This is another 'beyond easy' project. It's just two tubes cut from T-knit fabric that are slightly A-line instead of straight rectangles. There's 3/4" wide elastic at the top of the skirt and the top and 1/2" elastic at the bottom of the top so that it drapes nicely.
I just whipped this up on the spur of the moment but if you guys want a step by step tutorial let me know. I like this so much I wouldn't mind two!
Very cute! I like this one!
ReplyDeleteI'd love some more info about the "A-line" cut. And how did you finish the edge? Love it!
ReplyDeleteHi Tamara,

ReplyDeleteThanks for your questions. I think I'll probably make another one and do a tutorial soon. People really seem to enjoy these easy to sew projects. If you can't wait though....start with a rectangle and then just draw the sides out a few inches to increase the length of the base of the rectangle. You'll get more of a trapezoid shape standing on the longest edge.
For the edges you can either serge or zigzag and then turn and press, slightly wider than your elastic. Sew this down except for a small section where you'll insert your elastic and then close up after. What I did though was measure my elastic, sew the ends together to make a big loop, attach it right onto the fabric (right side), then turned it to the inside of the fabric. I like this method because it gets rid of the stitching lines.
I have to confess, that as much as I hate unfinished edges, I just left the hem on the skirt. I ran out of fabric and had to make it shorter than what I had intended. I felt like if I hemmed it properly it would be bordering on too short for me. (Normally I would hem it though!)
Hope this helps!
Oooh, this looks great. I love all of the various ways it can be worn and you look fabulous in all of them. I'll look forward to the tutorial.
