Water for Elephants

My friend and I went to see "Water for Elephants" the other night.

Oh my gosh you guys!  This movie gave me heart palpitations, I swear.  I'm not going to say much about the story at all, because I don't want to give one ounce of it away for anyone who hasn't seen it yet, or read the book.  I will talk about the fashion and Reese Witherspoon though, because I don't think she's ever looked more beautiful than she does in this movie.

The whole thing is set in the 1930's in a circus.  Could there be a more picturesque setting?  I love 30's glamour, and mixing it in with the gaudiness of the circus makes for amazing visuals.

Check out these incredible sketches alongside the real wardrobe, I found them on Instyle.com .

One of my favourite looks (as you already know for the Tourist wardrobe review) is any evening gown cut on the bias, like this one:

Reese really knows how to pull off that inverted V halter neckline.  Oooh la la, take a gander at this lovely one in red red red:

And, of course, every lady has to have a dress that looks just as good leaving a room as it did walking in.

I loved every outfit she wore, even the housecoats!  The casual looks were just as beautiful as the evening wear.
And my #1 favourite look:

You can't really tell, but she's wearing Jodhpurs!  Makes me want to run out and get a pair.  And look at all of the lovely bangles on her wrist.

If you go to this movie be prepared for a bit of an emotional roller coaster (and quite a bit of violence), but also be prepared for incredible visuals, wardrobe, hair, sets, and lighting.

All in all it was a good night out and I'm inspired to make something with a 30's vibe to it somehow.  If I had someplace to wear an evening gown you know I'd be on that instantly, but maybe something a bit more low key will be in order.  We'll see what I can come up with!
